Praxilla Jacket

Here is a jacket that has done away with most of the things you might expect from a jacket. There are no flaps, no buttons to speak of, no elasticated bits at the hem or cuffs. It has, for the most part, decided to opt out of the conversation about ornamentation.

The shape is boxy, and it's short of body, cut to sit around the hip. The cloth is a smooth and substantial, the sort that holds its structure. The main event, really, is the zipper. It's a two-way zip, which is a gratifyingly practical detail. It means you can unzip it from the bottom as well as the top, which stops the jacket from bunching up when you sit down. A small thing, but it makes a difference.

The pockets are there, but they keep to themselves. Two vertical welts at the side, but they don't make a scene about it. A simple point collar and wide, straight sleeves round things out. It's a straightforward piece of outerwear, reduced to its component parts: shape, cloth, and a very good zipper.
